For anyone who’s ever
fancied themselves an aspiring art collector, The Pin-UPStairs
is the place to begin.
Everything in the
exhibition is priced under $500, and most pieces are less than $300. All of the
work is
shown unframed and hung directly on the walls. Unlike
other gallery exhibitions, the work is refreshingly
cash/credit and carry, allowing buyers to fall in love and
purchase a piece of art on the spot that they can take
home with them that day. For the cost of a handbag or
a pair of shoes, a client can acquire a piece of original
art created by an emerging artist.
jen bekman also discovers new artists through
the innovative Hey, Hot Shot! photography competition,
which gives talented unknowns the opportunity to
compete for exposure and gallery representation. More
information on the rules, rewards, upcoming quarterly
deadlines and related exhibitions is available at
Since its inaugural
exhibition in March of 2003, jen bekman
has attracted the attention of critics, museum
curators and collectors alike. Gallery artists and
exhibitions have been featured in publications such as
ARTFORUM, The New York Times, Interior Design Magazine, W Magazine,
The Village Voice and
Magazine. The gallery also has a well-established online
presence having been featured on sites such as
Curbed,
Daily Candy, Gawker, and Gothamist. Ms. Bekman, the
gallery's founder and director, is the editor of
the popular design weblog, Personism, bringing the gallery and its artists to the
attention of an even broader
audience of designers, architects, and magazine editors.
