After moving to Budapest in 2000 I have been fortunate to travel extensively over the past five years. In transit I have spent thousands of hours in bus stations, train stations, airports, and cafes. Using the ubiquitous free postcards or recent acquisitions from newsstands, I have produced hundreds of pen and pencil drawings on the backs of postcards during my idle hours in transit. Upon returning to Budapest, postcards are then painted in gouache during the tranquil morning hours in my studio. It is my hope that the supports for these paintings being an eclectic local mix of ephemerality (hair products, mobile phones, autos, and pop music compilations) and permanence (monuments, cityscapes, landscapes, and cultural identity) over time fuse with the paintings en verso to create a single permanent vision of this world of junk DNA and planned obsolescence.
